A chamber opera celebrating the heroic life and deeds of Queen Nanny of the Maroons. A national heroine of Jamaica, she led the Windward Maroons into battle against the British during the First Maroon War (1720-1739). This experimental work, which features contemporary vocal, spoken word artistry, orchestral music and dance, is the first in Thompson’s ‘Heroines of Opera’ series.
